Don't ask me who's influenced me. A lion is made up of the lambs he's digested, and I've been reading all my life. Giorgos Seferis

Tonight my wife and I are going to see Carmina Burana. I'll post a "review" tomorrow.

Thanks to Andrea and Oliver. for their very useful tips and pointers on my upcoming trip to Germany. The excitement is building!

Another question, what kind of clothes should I bring, with regard to the weather?

With all the new features that have been added to Manila, I think I'm going to redesign the BookNotes layout when I get back from my trip.

A Day Without Weblogging

As much as I am looking forward to my trip to Germany, I'm a bit apprehensive about the inevitable lapse that will result in BookNotes activity, both new material from me and page reads from y'all (Texan for "you all").

Since I started posting on April 3rd, BookNotes has had 16, 818 page reads. While 16K+ does not exactly constitute a high traffic website, it does represents more than just a few readers. (Thanks.)

I've got a question/crazy idea. Is there a BookNotes reader out there, with Manila experience, who would be interested in standing in as a Guest Editor while I'm away? Please respond to me privately by clicking on my face (to the left). This could be interesting.

Back to your regularly scheduled broadcast

By way of Scripting News, comes this story from The New York Times Magazine, The Good E-Book. When I ran the BookLab weblog, which unfortunately ceased to exist at the end of 1998, I linked to numerous stories on e-books. Most of the press back then was overblown hype from e-book reader manufacturers or knee jerk reactions from a kind of "save the book" constituency. Things are looking less polarized now days, which means it should start getting a lot more interesting.

The First BookNotes Readers' Survey

E-Book reader anyone? You have to be a BookNotes member to participate. Remember, membership has it's benefits. If anyone votes, besides me, I'll put up a link to the results.
