If you live to be one hundred, you've got it made. Very few people die past that age. George Burns
Some very cool stuff is happening at the University of Iowa Libraries, Conservation Department. My former BookLab partner and best buddy, Gary Frost, is now the head conservator over there. Iowa is lucky to have him and I hope they know it. I don't think anyone has a better understanding of the history of the book and clearer mind and eye to the Future of the Book than does Gary. It's hard to keep up with Gary and you have to pay close attention if you want to try. Here are a few links that will introduce the newbie and enlighten others:
Bookbinding Models @ University of Iowa.
Reading Modes and Library Preservation Agenda
Preserving Preservation
Underground Library
Future of the Book Education
There is much more in the Commentary section of Gary's website. There is a permanent link to Gary via his Future of the Book website in my links section. Check there often.
Awhile back I gave notice of and a link to Blue Green, an environmental weblog. This weblog is run by Dru Jay. Dru also runs a weblog called misnomer and at misnomer, he has a link to a publication he puts out called subtext. subtext is available in pdf format and is already imposed for duplex printing and folding down into a pamphlet. That sound like step 1 of what Gary would call desktop deluxe. All you binders and wanna be binders rush over and get the subtext!
