Never lend books, for no one ever returns them; the only books I have in my library are books that other folks have lent me. Anatole France
I've agonized over religion most of my life. For my childhood and young adult years I belonged to a religion that was a potent and all consuming lifestyle, as opposed to a Sunday social activity. I no longer associate with that, or any church or religious philosophy. Yet I still think about things related to church and religion, and morality and ethics. Garret over at array pointed to Progress in Religion, a talk by Freeman Dyson given on his receiving the 2000 Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion. I am deeply moved by this, have a read yourself and see what you think.
Metadata Plug-in
Many of my readers know that I use a software product called Manila to manage the BookNotes weblog. Manila is designed by the company UserLand and is part of their scripting platform called Frontier. I am neither a programmer or a script writer, but I have been using Frontier and now Manila to do website design and content management since the mid '90s.
Frontier, because it is a scripting language has always invited creative modification. Manila, which is an internet server application running inside Frontier, is no less inviting. In fact, Manila has a plug-in architecture and a small, but growing group of plug-in developers.
One Frontier user/developer, John VanDyk, has started working on a metadata plug-in for Manila that would make adding and managing metadata tags to a Manila website easier. I plan on tracking his progress. I have offered to beta test the plug-in. I will report how it goes here.
