I love everything that's old: old friends, old times, old manners, old books, old wine. Oliver Goldsmith.

Hi everyone, did you miss me? I'm sorry I didn't get any news or posting up yesterday. Two things collided to cause a BookNotes "day-off".

My daughter's school choir and recorder ensemble performed at the Scarborough Faire, Renaissance Festival, near Waxahachie, Texas. That's about a 3 hour drive from Austin. So, up in the morning a 5:00 am and on the road to Waxahachie.

I figured I'd do a late flip of the news page and put out an evening edition. However, I forgot that yesterday was ISP move day at UserLand. When I got home, BookNotes was "off the air".

Sunday morning, it looks like the move went well and everyone anticipates an improvement in the quality of service. Bravo UserLand!

Evaluating internet information and resources is a major topic of discussion and concern in library circles. Does any other group care about this? Here are some sites that introduce the subject and its importance.

Evaluating Information Found on the Internet , by Elizabeth E. Kirk.

Evaluating Web Resources , by Jan Alexander and Marsha Ann Tate. This is a link to the original web site. The authors have published a book, Web Wisdom: How to Evaluate and Create Information Quality on the Web, which they link to at the site.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly or, Why It's a Good Idea to Evaluate Web Sources, by Susan E. Beck

My Hideous Progeny: Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. A site dedicated to Mary Shelley and her Gothic novel, Frankenstein.

What's this? Technoweenie! Hosting two great sites, Graphic Resources and Linux Installation on PowerPC Resources.

This can't be good. Nabisco Introduces Innovative, Interactive Oreo Adding a New Dimension to Snacking

I wonder if Gary Frost knows that The Slinky (also known as The Key to Understanding Book Action) has been added to The Toy Hall of Fame? Other 2000 inductees are: Mr. Potato Head, jacks, the bicycle, and the jump rope.

It's Sunday, why not spend some time at the museum? Expeditions: 150 Years of Smithsonian Research in Latin America. You'll need shockwave and bandwidth, but this looks very cool.
