Strange Days
On this day in 1958, Ezra Pound was released from St. Elizabeth's Hospital for the criminally insane in Washington, D.C. Pound was held there for 13 years after his arrest in Italy by U.S. forces at the end of World War II. He had been found unfit to stand trial upon his return to the U.S. Pound died in Italy in 1972. *

Gutenberg Goes Digital--Goettingen State and University Library have announced a pre-version of its digitized Gutenberg Bible. Gutenberg Digital will be available in a 2 disc CD-ROM set in May.
The CD set will include:
All 1,282 pages of the 2 volume, vellum Göttingen Gutenberg Bible (Many illuminated pages can be enlarged for detail viewing.);
The entire Göttingen Model Book, a fifteenth century manuscript containing foliage, initials and patterned grounds in various color combinations. It is suspected that this model book provided the patterns for use in the Göttingen Bible;
Helmasperger's Notary Instrument. A document describing the troubled business relationship between Johannes Fust and Gutenberg.
